How to shop around for the right hair care products

Finding the appropriate hair products might be difficult for some Black women. This issue has made the natural hair journey more difficult, and some ladies have restored their hair to a relaxed form. Here are three simple steps to help you select the right hair care products for your crown.

1. Reduce your dependency on social media influencers.

You've most likely spent hours on social media watching vlogs on hair care products. You come across an influencer with long, beautiful hair (what some of us term "hair goals") who is promoting a product or two. A surge of enthusiasm kicks in, and before you know it, you're at the beauty store dropping some coins to buy product.

The natural hair community on social media can be really beneficial. However, don't rush to use the most reviewed product on social media. Often, these items are promoted by influencers who are paid by companies to promote them. As a result, their reviews may not be authentic because they were curated to meet contract criteria rather than the product's ability to work.

2. Consult with competent natural hair specialists.

Speak with a seasoned hair expert or licensed cosmetologists. These persons have spent years learning about hair care and fixing hair. Therefore, they have an extensive knowledge about hair care. Do not get me wrong. I am a strong DIYer. However, I know that there are instances when you need to consult an expert, and hair care is one of them. Do not hesitate to consult a natural hair cosmetologist.

3. Make your crown a lab rat.

Remember that we are not a monolith. Each of our crowns is unique. What works for one person's crown may not be suitable for yours. So, transform your crown into a lab rat. Try different products on your crown until you find the one that best meets its needs.

Finding the right hair care product can be tough. Limiting the advice you get from social media, experimenting with different products on your crown, and relying on hair specialists for haircare advice can all make the task easier.
